Inside the Artist's Studio series continues with Composer Ronald Hemmel


Composer Ron Hemmel to Appear at

Living Waters Lutheran Church on Sept. 16

Free event is part of Living Waters' "Inside the Artist's Studio" series.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a wine-and-cheese reception, followed by a one-hour presentation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., during which time Dr. Hemmel will discuss the inspiration behind some of his numerous compositions, which have included sonatas for piano and organ, choral music, instrumentals, and small and large ensemble pieces - including scores for the Montgomery High School Concert Band and for the opening convocation of Rider University's Westminster Choir College. A highlight of the evening will be the world premiere of his "Opus 3, No. 6," which will be performed by Shannen Kahler, pianist at Living Waters.

Dr. Hemmel teaches music theory and composition at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, where he also serves as Artistic Director of the Music Computing Center. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Westminster Choir College; a Master of Music degree from James Madison University; and both the Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; and is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists. He is the recipient of the Excellence in Composition award from the Brass Chamber Music Forum and multiple awards from Rider University and ASCAP.
